The Official Nursery Reveal: Sage, Cream & Wood Decor

This project has been in the making for a very long time, and now that baby is here, it is finally complete! I have been tweaking a few things here and there for functionality versus my Pinterest-perfect decor, because, well–real life needs trump pretty pictures, even for a photographer!

Here is the before (please excuse the cellphone snap):

We started with cream walls because of the warmth and brightness it offered, and ordered a custom carpet to match.

The story behind the final colour theme is actually quite simple, but somewhat sentimental. You know me and how much I love my neutrals, so that was always the plan, but then when I saw the beautiful hutch on one of my vintage hunting adventures–I knew that it was THE perfect piece for the nursery, and that everything else would fall into place around it. The oh-so-subtle sage was so complimentary to the warm toned wood, and it would fit exquisitely with the cream walls. We just needed to add some legs for height. See for yourself!

As for the crib, we scoured the internet with no luck for a piece to do the room justice. So, being the crafty creative I am, decided to take this one to the DIY side of things. We found a moderately sized crib that wasn’t too bulky, and that was almost raw wood which would allow for us to stain it to our heart’s content. I think we did a good job!

Now that we had jumped on board the DIY train, it was rather difficult to disembark. Our next project was the wooden hexagon shelves. The items in their midst seem to change weekly, but the intention was to have a few books in one, a framed portrait in the other, and the baby monitor. And of course, custom stained to match the rest of the room’s features. I am very happy with the outcome of these bad boys!

While I wouldn’t consider this a permanent fixture in the room, it is one of my most favourite “baby gear” purchases. Why? Because this diaper backpack truly combines beauty AND functionality, and honestly–it totally makes me happy to see it in it’s textured neutral glory. That and all the goodies I can stuff into it!

Back to functionality with the diaper changing station, complete with our rollie-pollie cart filled with the essentials and a few extras.

I’ve changed a few things in the first week after welcoming home baby based on how we were using things, and the supplies we actually used on a regular basis. This is the updated lineup and I am very happy with it, and so is the husband–the diaper-changer of the household.

Down to every detail, all of the accessories matched, and it makes my brain so happy. The light-switch plate is no exception–custom stained to match.

Last but not least, the closet. We took down the ugly sliding doors, opted for an open-concept style, and custom stained baseboards and valance. The canvas bins allow for hiding the unsightly items, and the open shelf is great for easy-access for things like blankets. And yes, another appearance of the coveted diaper bag because “heart-eyes”! Of course, when you open those drawers, the insides are just as organized–different sizes in each drawer, sub-divided by sleeve length and type of clothing item. Again, my brain is happy.
