Pregnancy is more than just watching your belly grow.. It is a journey that brings you from woman to mom. Some may say those are the same, but any mom will tell you otherwise. Pregnancy is a learning experience; a physically and mentally changing one, a good one. Sure there may not-so-good days where you complain about your swollen feet that you can’t even see, sleepless nights because you just can’t get comfy, or those fun frequent trips to the ladies room, but the moment your eyes meet with your little one, who even remembers? The moments you want to remember are how you watched your baby grow, how pretty your skin became, how beautiful your belly was (whatever shape it was at the time), and how amazing you felt on the good days. A great way to remember this is to capture it in photographs. Whether they are portraits to remind you how sexy you felt with your baby belly, or lifestyle portraits to show the love you felt looking at your belly and your partner, or simply a portrait that says “yep, I was that big and awesome” to show your baby when they are old enough. I can’t tell you how disappointed I was when my mother informed me that she did not have any maternity or newborn pictures of me..but had tons of my little brother. If not for yourself, do it for your child.
It’s never too early to book your maternity session. The best time to photograph your growing belly is during months 7-8 (27-37 weeks) in order for you to feel comfortable, and still safely be able to move around and into a variety of poses. However, there is nothing stopping you from having your belly photographed earlier on (especially with multiples). Whenever you feel the most beautiful is when you should schedule your session.
Typically, expecting parents book their maternity and newborn sessions at the same time, about 3 or more months before your scheduled due date. This guarantees our availability for your newborn session, and allows for more planning time so we can cater to your style and create or order personalized newborn props for your session(s).
We currently offer in-studio or on-location service for your maternity session.
During your consultation, we go over anything specific that you would like for your session. We discuss preferences towards colours, textures, poses, etc. The only thing you need to bring are any personal items you would like to include (ex: the cute little shoes you got at your shower, or that special undergarment set). The studio has a selection of wraps, dresses, and unique wardrobe options for you to choose from for your session. If you would like something custom for your session, we are happy to make recommendations for vendors for you to purchase your items. If it is something that matches the studio’s style (pure, natural, & timeless), we are happy to purchase the item for you and add it to the studio collection (with creation fee paid in-full).
Our average session consists of approximately 5-10 different setups. We try to get a few poses with mom-to-be alone, a few with mom & dad, and some where the sole focus is that gorgeous belly. In addition, we get a few family portraits with parents and siblings (if any). Each session is different and we cater to your likes and dislikes, as discussed during your consultation.
Two to four weeks following your session date, we will get together for your ordering session to select your print order. Your personalized gallery will consist of 10-20 beautifully edited photographs. During this appointment, we will look over the sample products and decide which items you would like to purchase. We have a few collections to choose from and a-la-carte is also available for many of our products. Following your purchase, you will have access to an online gallery to share with friends and family until your order arrives (password protected upon request). From this gallery, you may download the branded (watermarked) images to use for online (social media and email) sharing.
Maternity sessions are held in-studio or on-location. Outdoor sessions are usually up to 1-2 hours long in order for us to capture candid moments in addition to posed portraits. Studio sessions are a little shorter, and we focus on mom-to-be a bit more. To make you feel your absolute best, we use local, independent, beauty consultants for personalized makeup application (upon request).
The session fee covers photographer’s time and talent, travel expenses, equipment and prop use, and professional editing of your photographs. In order to schedule your session, we collect a booking deposit (creation fee). This non-refundable deposit reserves your date & time, and is subject to our cancellation policy. Please see our pricing page for more information.
